In spite of the success of the Standard Model (SM) in explaining almost all of the existing experimental data, motivated by several unanswered problems, such as the existence of dark matter and the mass generation of neutrinos, it is widely believed that the SM is not the fundamental theory and new physics beyond the SM will likely occur at or beyond the TeV energy scale. With its designed luminosity and 14 TeV center-of-mass (c.m.) energy, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a proton-proton collider located at CERN, allows us to study physics in the TeV energy scale. On the other hand, data from cosmology and astrophysics can also provide useful information about new physics independently of collider experiments.

In the past few years, we have learned that most of our Universe is not made of the known matter (∼ 5%) but rather of unknown substance called dark matter (∼ 23%) and dark energy (∼ 72%). The neutrino experiments also confirm the non-zero mass for neutrinos. The research interest of Particle Physics Theory Group at NTNU focuses mainly on phenomenology new physics at the LHC, dark matter and neutrino physics. Student in our group, depending on his/her interests, will learn the basic knowledge of research topics mentioned above, including the both theoretical and numerical studies. We also expect the students will develop their won interests in particle physics when they study physics in the future.
